Democratic process for selecting representatives forces candidates to claim ‘Best interests of the poeple’ as their motivation for seeking delegated power. They do their best to convince voters of this noble dedication or lose. Since the activity of seeking power is in itself egocentric, displaying a wish for a job that carries authority over others, the most convenient way to gain resonance in the hearts of the people is for candidates to associate with and talk about noble ideas already held in the populace.
This is where sentments about religions, freedom, social justice and prosperity get sprinkled in with the more banal interests like the proverbial ‘chicken in every pot.’
Today, our highly factionalized society is about as bad as it has been since pre-civil war of the 19th. century. A declining economy is making the ground for growth of extremism on both sides very fertile.
If we are ever to re-combine as a strong, multicultural nation like we once were, both sides are going to have to unload some sacred baggage. You see, what separates us is extremism on behalf of our sacrosanct ‘ism’ notions that supersedes the practical, proven value of our common liberty protected by enforcement of a document that has preserved this nation through many worse travails. It is something we cannot abandon to those who promise to advance our ‘isms’ because of claims that they have our interests at heart. Half of political aspirants have our common interests motivating them. Unfortunately they seldom also possess the talent for lying necessary to gain office so abundant in the other half.
For unification purposes both the Left and Right must find ways to dissociate from their own toxic elements that stand in the way, if not against unifying as a free nation once again.
Yes I say again because we have lost a great deal of freedom and privacy in recent years. We are also set like dominoes for severe losses in the near future, no matter how hard we try or how fast we progress.
On the Right, you must have the courage to face your theological barnacles and publicly scrape them off your weighty underside. Your theologians and religious zealots are depriving you of many otherwise sympathetic cooperation politically because sensible people on the left know how dangerous and meddling Religionists can be in the lives of free people. History clearly shows how the influence of theologies on government and law policies can be oppressive sometimes resulting in factional persecution. Religious principles are valuable elements. They are the ‘bath water.’ Use and include them in all efforts to make a better world. Get rid of your religious leaders and their rituals aimed at controlling you. They have no rightful place in public political discourse but to advance their own poewer to meddle in the lives others. Abandon politicians who try to play on your precious religious principles by pandering to you with cheap advocacies like school rituals and God on coins or in a national pledge to make it into into a glorified prayer and to give their limited authority an appearance of a Godly mandate! They are phonies! Don’t let them make you into trusting sheep for ultimate theofascist government by fiat.
On the Left, you must have the courage to face your socialistic barnacles who advance a religion of a god-like benevolent government that offers a cornucopia of benefits to the deprived stolen from the largesse and industry of those who create prosperity. Socialistic governments treat or minister to subjects. Free people do not consider themselves as subjects or possessions as ultimate property of the State. History clearly shows how centralized, collective government with oversight of ideological zealots and self-appointed intelligentsia result in a ruling ‘party elitist class,’ persecution and slavery of masses of unmotivated people because they don’t really own anything. Such governments taketh and taketh again at their pleasure. You must abandon your redistributoin zealots in Robin Hood attire. They meddle in the lives of others in every way imaginable. It scares freedom loving people. Follow their principles of taking care of the disadvantaged, sound environmental protection that doesn’t persecute people and weaken our economic viability and equality under the law but get rid of them. Like theological parasites, they only serve themselves and their lust for power over others.
We must start looking at each other as freedom loving people with good motives and good potential leadership, IF we get rid of the zealot baggage that keeps us imprisoned in a false we vs. them mentality!
If you are young, study about Eoropean and American history. Ask older immigrants from Europe and older Americans who can remember what real freedom was like about 20th. Century History. They lived it!
Most important of all, it is past time for this free people to start doing their own thinking instead of accepting spoon-fed lies and manipulation from ‘authorities’ who have personal gain mixed in the medicine. Question authority means not to disrespect rightful authority but to check credentials and make sure the ones giving orders possess rightful, delegated authority and authentically culled knowledge, not second-hand propaganda.
Political parties and popular theologies are corrupt and they cannot hide it any longer because the signs creep and leach out through their respective veneers. Please open your eyes and see it. Your children’s possible free future depends on our ability to overcome efforts by greedy, power lusting people to turn us against one another

All of your comments are very humbling and gratefully cherished. A book might well be rattling around inside. Unfortunately, books take writing and research time, energy and superb organizational skills. Writing is a new passion barely two years old and there is so much still to learn. Unfortunately posing questions is so much easier than proposing solutions. It is also a lot safer!
The best solutions to large questions seem to be arrived at by collaboration of a number sufficient to the need but still smaller than a committee.

I have often thought and said you are the most influential and talented writer the blog can boost of. I believe I mentioned before you should be writing novels or political thought segments in a much wider range. “This article deserves to be a book”, I’ve forwarded it to my publisher list, although a new cookie recipe might get greater attention and favor. Depth can be such a headache.
In my opinion my least important and shallow blog was my most recent, “New diet pill increases sex drive”, sent in its non-blog long form, got more response than anything I’ve submitted. While it was repeatedly rejected, it did get republished without much fanfare in South Africa in a Bloomberg Press Journal.
When the diverse radicals on this blog all agree, somebody just wrote on water.
Who thinks they can argue your primary “doctrine” in this article is a fool.
If you could create practical solutions to match the current roadmap, you could create a movement, and let’s face it, that s the only part lacking from the wisdom we all recognize within this article, my damaged hope would get some much needed CPR.
I’m afraid though you’ve painted yourself into the corner were the esoteric must have a practical solution.
I assure you, I for one am waiting for a follow-up. On the rights behalf, may I trade you one abortion restriction for one re-distribution of wealth advancement?
