This economy is showing us exactly who are the haves and have-nots are. The growing numbers of layoffs and foreclosures are a painful reminder that we’re far from being out of the woods. People are becoming homeless and the shelters can’t accommodate with enough beds and space to serve them. The food pantries are reporting that a great number of people being serviced are the working poor. Those who are working but have to make the decision to pay their rent over having to buy food. These are people who make too much to qualify for food stamps. It’s a frightening reality that people in America have to make the painful choice. Do I buy food or buy my medication? It’s the proverbial robbing of Peter to pay Paul.
Yet there are more people applying for services such as public assistance than ever but limited funding because of the budget cuts. It’s a vicious cycle and it’s only going to get worse because people losing jobs due to layoffs, cutbacks, etc. I have been reminded that there is housing but there is a lack of affordable housing. What is the sense of renting an apartment, house, etc. if you won’t be able to afford the rent, buy groceries or other necessities?
This is an election year and many voters are looking carefully at how their elected officials are doing. Are they are going to vote for this same person and put them back in office for another term? Then on the other hand, many will not vote because of apathy and just being fed up with the whole political machine. Corruption, back-alley dealing, sex scandals, nepotism and cronyism.

BB, What you say is true enough. But let’s get some perspective and hope flowin. The last time we even came close to seeing signs in Seattle, saying “Will the last one out turn out the lights”, was when Reagan arrived. His “Tyranny” as you have called it, saved out almost “Collective” behinds.
Russia is back, taking back portions of the old Empire, developing new nukes, telling us not to defend eastern Europe (we said K), Iran is now not just holding a few hostages, but the free world, and while we are cutting military (peace through strength is so Republican), we are throwing every last penny we can borrow into non-growth special interest who are responsible for getting us here.
How about 75% of those trillions to the small businesses that employee 75% of this country.
Better yet, back to the tyranny of Reagan. Get government out of the way, vastly reduce taxes before it’s to late and let me and mine start new and innovative business and turn this ship around.
Final note to Libs: Last I heard, oddly enough, 75 cents of every dollar spent helpng the poor, goes to erect gov buildings, overpay rude gov employees and drive us deeper into a slick hole. Maybe re-instituting the death tax will help.
I agree. But not voting would be a poor decision because that would, in essence, be voting for the other person.
