Now that the left received the proverbial glass of cold water in the face, they want us to idealize the way things “ought to be.” It is very easy to envision a perfect world, without greed, laziness, or any other human weakness. And in this world everyone does everything for the greater good, putting them self and their family second, to ensure that other anonymous people are cared for and live a wonderful existence.
I grew up in Philly and we don’t even dream of such nonsense. Socialism doesn’t work. Let me repeat this– socialism does not work. It is so often those that would receive a disproportionate amount from socialism that support it. Women want health care expenses to be shared equally because they use it much more than men and therefore would be paying far less than their fair share (what they use). Oddly enough, men paying more for car insurance and life insurance doesn’t require any “common good” remediation. Minorities support social programs because they receive much more in community services than whites, again receiving far more than they pay for. Teachers want pay more in line with other educated professionals but still want the protection of their unions and pay based on seniority rather than actual results, unlike other professionals. The list goes on and on.
Only an individual knows what is best for him. Not the state. Not the federal government. Not an expert in the field. Just the man or woman who lives his/her life everyday and tries to scrape some joy from the time he/she walks on this earth.
Please stop pretending that you’re working for the common good. You are working for your own best interests, not anyone else. If there is a group of people who would benefit as you would, you will make use of them, but it is only your self you are looking out for. My point is there is no common good. Their are policies that help many, but none that help all. Every person empowered causes a diminishing of power to those that already had the same power. Or money. And this argument is about money after all. It’s been about the money for quite some time. When gays demand legalized marriage, the argument is so they can “visit their significant other in the hospital.” Same argument every time by every spin doctor. Personally I’m fine with gay marriage. Honestly, that’s not true. I feel that all state recognized marriage is a crock. Marriage is based in religion. The state is required to be separate from any and all religions to stop imposing any religion’s beliefs on the citizenry. State recognized marriage is the only reason gays want marriage. Because married couples receive benefits that single people don’t. Namely death benefits and discounts on insurance. This leaves a fewer number of single people paying premium prices so married individuals can pay less. Again the examples are endless of how “equality” is a sham and the business of “equality” is ultimately bad for the common good- though very enriching to a few.
In the end we should all do what is best for us. It really is that simple. Imposing your will on other people is tyranny, no matter how well intentioned. Taking other peoples money or property is theft, no matter how well intentioned. I am not here for your pleasure or amusement. I am not a sheep to be shorn so you may clothe the poor. I live to enjoy my life. I do not do this at other people’s expense—be it economic or social. Be true to yourself and realize that you are a thief and a liar. Free yourself from the chains of liberalism and stand on your own two feet and you will find you are strong enough to offer a hand up to those you wish to help. And it won’t require burdening other people or stealing from them. It won’t require lying to people or trying to guilt them into action. “To thine own self be true…”

Laura Bramble:
Welcome back to the snake pit.
Laura,
HAHAHAHA!! If you did’t you wouldn’t be here or feel the need to comment on everything.
Again… welcome back.
Besides, as a liberal, I am nothing but a liar, thief and now cheat who can’t stand on my own two feet, etc, etc, etc… since no motive of a liberal could POSSIBLY be honest or honorable in your eyes BECAUSE they are liberal and it is inconceivable that anyone could be motivated by anything other than self-interest…
then why do you care what me or any of us liberals say anyway?
Why bother to take the time to write an article in reponse to a liberal viewpoint or repond to a comment made by such a low form of life as a liberal?
Just ignore us for the lying, thieving, cheating, etc., etc., etc. we liberals are…LOL
You go, Blowhard….You told me! LOL You sexy beast you…LOL
Of course Consti got it, you’re cut from the same cloth…tells me all I need to know besides your writing…
I think YOU have me confused with someone who gives a damn, too..:-)
Laura,
I never lived in Germantown. I lived in East Mt. Airy. And it has been tha same ethnic make up for over 40 years. I grew up around the corner from St. Theresa Catholic school. It had 350 stidents, all black. When the Catholic school is all black, you can imagine what the public school was like (Ada Louis, in case you wondered). You should read more closely before you make comments that show your tendency to assume. I don’t care where you lived in Philly, nor do I care about the street cred you feel you have from Bucks county. Again you assumed I have some ideal of who you are and what you’re like. Laura, I don’t care about either. The word you is for both singular and plural second person in the english language. Perhaps I should have said “yous” in traditional Philly speak, or “y’all” to honor my current neighbors, but in order to reach the largest audience I used “you” in the traditional english format. When I write I am addressing the reader. Now when you are reading it I understand that confusion may lead to the belief that I wrote it for Laura and only your version uses “you”, with every other person getting the same essay with “her” or “Laura” in place of “you”. But really everybody was addressed directly, not just “you”. As far as all liberals being liars and cheats: do they support taking money from someone to give to another and give false reasons for their true motive? Then, yes they are all liars and thieves.
You quoted a portion of the last paragraph requesting that the reader cast off the chains of liberalism and then complain that I didn’t specify which liberals I was refering to. All I can say that if the reading level is over your head, just go to another blog. I refuse to dumb down my blogs so you can understand it without having to think.
In closing, it is rather silly to tell someone that they should spend more time thinking about what they are going to write when you, Laura, can’t even use spell check because you are in such a rush to write a response. Consti seemed to get it just fine and your response to him was thoughtless and rude.
Consti,
I think you have confused me with someone who gives a damn…:-)
Germantown was not always “the hood’” so it depends on when you lived there. And the fact that you assume that all of Bucks County is so rarified as to make me unable to understand a working class, blue collar neighborhood says something about you and your assumptions about the suburbs. Most of the people on the street where I grew up woked at Fairless Works- US Steel, so please don’t lecture or “inform” me about working class, as if you are more “blue collar than thou.” You don’t know me. As a matter of fact, my own mother worked at US Steel, and not in the office. I went to high school in Bristol- not Yardley, Newtown or New Hope. As far as leaving downtown, Center City Philadelphia is a big place and it’s not all Society Hill or Rittenhouse Square. I lived on 18th Street right off of Green and Queen Village- hardly penthouse highrises. But it is easier to make me into some kind of stereotype that fits with your idea of what a liberal is- the girl from the burbs who doesn’t know what life is like for real working people and then be dismissive as if I am incapable of understanding “the blue collar, union, working class vibe that most of the city had when I was growing up.”
“Be true to yourself and realize that you are a thief and a liar. Free yourself from the chains of liberalism and stand on your own two feet and you will find you are strong enough to offer a hand up to those you wish to help. And it won’t require burdening other people or stealing from them. It won’t require lying to people or trying to guilt them into action. “To thine own self be true…”” Where in any line of your peice are you making the statement that are are talking about all liberals or just liberal politicians? You totally rip off the points I made in my article, make no reference to liberals as a whole or to liberal politicians, then you go off with a bunch of insults and use the word YOU. Even if you are talking to all liberals, why are you going to call a whole group of people liars and thieves? That is toatlly unnecessary. Do you know all liberals? Are all the liberals you have ever met liars and theieves? Or that liberals don’t stand on their own two feet? As I said, you should not make assumptions about people if you don’t know them- individually or as a group. I’m quite sure that you would have a great deal to say if I made blanket statements like those about conservatives.
Maybe you need to think before you write and focus more on conveying your message clearly before going off on a rant if you want to be clearly understood. Maybe you need to reread what you wrote from the perspective of saomeone who wasn’t in your head when you wrote it, does not have ESP and just has the words on the page to go by.
Dear Laura,
My response was a general response to people on the left, not you in particular. Your post was merely the most recent at the time of my posting.
However since you have taken issue with my post allow me to answer some of your points.
First, I am from Philly. I mention that here as I mentioned it in my blog. I did not then or now “lecture”. Congratulations for growing up in a suburb and living in the downtown for a decade. Did you ever go to Martin Luther King high school? How about Germantown? These were my local high schools. If you ever left downtown, you know that these schools represent areas untouched by the mob or Rocky. It was and is the hood. I don’t say this to brag, merely inform. My statement that we don’t even dream of such nonsense relates to the blue collar, union, working class vibe that most of the city had when I was growing up. Why you mistook that for Italian machismo or organized crime may tell you about your personal biases.
Second, you state that your blog took both sides to task. It isn’t clear to me which assaults were on the liberals, unless you feel liberals accept marital rape as acceptable or that rape isn’t wrong if she was asking for it. I don’t personally believe either of those traits to be a liberal issue. Your other examples of the tea party people and an obvious reference to people opposed to Gay marriage are clearly against conservatives. So from my perspective it was one sided. From your perspective it was balanced and equal.
As for the “thief and liar” statement, I stand behind it 100%. This blog was to people on the left, not you in particular. I do believe that the left taking money from people to give it to other people– who are almost exclusively thier constituents/supporters– is theft. That they lie about the true purpose for this spending makes them liars. Laura, unless you are an elected official that can levy taxes, this does not apply to you.
In closing let me say that if I wanted to attack you personally, I would have commented on your post, not written my own.
Laura
Glad to see you haven’t changed yourself. I don’t see where he mentioned you in the article at all. Yet you make it all about yourself as before. It never ceases to amaze me how you complain about people doing the same thing you do yourself. Play nice kids but I won’t play nice myself…only you have to play nice… give me a break.
Blowhard,
Spot on!
Oh, and before you make judgements about people, make assumptions about them (and what they think, do and believe,) insult them and call them “a thief and a liar,” maybe you should get to know something about them first…I only excuse you because you very obviously have no idea what you are talking about.
Your “article” says far more about you than it does about me….
Blowhard,
I have to stop and laugh right there, cause the name so perfect here…If you were paying any attention, the article was taking extremists from BOTH sides to task. It could just as easily apply to liberals as it does conservatives and was meant to.
Just a little something you missed in the rush to judgement… Maybe instead of trying to stretch yourself into an argument against something that wasn’t even there, you may just try to stick with an article about something original.
And please don’t lecture about Philly or make it sound like something out of a Rocky or mob movie full of tough guys- I know all about it and that is not the case. I grew up in Bucks County and lived in Center City for 10 years.
