The problem with Progressives is sooner or later you run out of other people’s credit- Me
So as we approach the first anniversary of this presidency let’s recap what has been accomplished. Our current President and Congress have quadrupled (with a capital F) our federal deficit. This was done to keep unemployment below 8%. Now at 10% unemployment, the progressives actually brag about how well this money has worked. Joe Biden– perhaps the stupidest man to ever hold the Vice Presidency– actually stated that every dollar taxed away from business creates a dollar and a half of economic growth. He feels the stimlus did not go far enough. There is a reason Joe was the poorest man in the Senate. It was not his pious lifestyle or giving his money to worthy charities. He is simply an extraordinarily stupid man who existed in politics for most of 4 decades because we the people are not permitted to see the truth. He is the epitome of “progressive”. But I digress.
Progressives will spend any amount of other people’s money or wealth to gain and retain power. No lie is too great or obvious. No truth absolute. They never live up to their own standards for others. They believe in helping the poor– but give very little of their money/wealth to charity. They believe that all people deserve and must pay for health care, but not their health care. They get the best for free. Well it’s not free– we pay for it. They love those poor, unwanted dogs in shelters. But they adopt pure breed dogs from their multi-millionaire, silver spoon born socialist cohorts. They believe in tolerance- unless you believe differently. Then they are most intolerant of you. Because you are closed-minded, not them. They’ll spend any amount as long as “one person is saved”. The fact that the money spent trying to save that one person decreased the lives of hundreds or thousands or millions of others does not matter. They want to help poor children get a better education– unless it lessens the power and influence of the teacher’s unions. So you want a choice for your child? Don’t look to the pro-choice party. They choose to send their children to private schools because they can afford it.
Broke used to mean you didn’t have any money or liquid assets. With the widespread use of credit the line between broke and solvent has blurred. One thing is clear– we are in very, very serious debt. The kind of debt that cripples our nation’s currency and requires that spending stop increasing. The kind of debt that makes us beggars on the world stage. The kind of debt that makes taxes go up on individuals and business– killing our ability to sustain (much less improve) our quality of life. Also business without money doesn’t invest in new employees or ideas. When the taxes get high enough the business just leaves the jurisdiction of the taxing authority- be it local, state or national. We’ve shipped millions of manufacturing jobs overseas. Now we are shipping our service and technical jobs overseas as well.
In short, the progressives have taxed away our present and are spending away our future. We are rapidly running out of credit. With a simple “no thanks” to our next debt offering from the wealthy countries around the globe, we would be broke. That means we are broke. If you don’t have enough money to pay your bills and you can’t get a loan, you are broke.

While one can interpret “general welfare” to mean social programs one can also interpret it to mean “opportunity for prosperity”. I really find it hard to swallow that the framers of the constitution had ANY intention for the government to provide that prosperity to the people. It’s the same stretch all progressives make for the argument of social programs. But when you look at the constitution as a whole the thought is as alien as Roswell. Lesser intrusive government was what was intended, otherwise we wouldn’t have a whole section on states rights.

Dodd is just one senator. If you looked a little closer, you would find many others, on both sides of the asile. What they have in common are their paymasters, the big financial institutions.
The federal reserve and the Treasury, are dominated by men with ties to Wall Street Investment bankers and the big banks, and have been for a very long time.

This is only true because the financial system was so mess up that it took a huge amount to bail out the folks who control the country. If Republican had won, the same amount would have been spent. I don’t kid myself. This government is, and has been, controlled by the big money boys and gals and big wealth for some time. Wall Street calls the tune, no matter who is in the White House or which party has the most seats in Congress.

Yes, we need a strong military. The military should protect our borders and defend us against attack. We do not need a military industrial complex that pushes us to be interventionists and to seek imperial goals. Most Libertarians and many conservatives have long advocated a pull back from international entanglements, that stretch and weaken the national defense. President George Washington warned us against international entanglements.

Check the The Preamble to the United States Constitution, a brief introductory statement of the fundamental purposes and guiding principles that the Constitution.
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
This is the key line: “establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare …”,
If this is not the founders foreseeing the need for social programs, then what is it?

I appreciate your belief that the greed of the wall street bankers ruined our economy but I beg to differ. First allow me to quote from CNN.com:
Dodd has been criticized for ties to the financial industry, which is particularly influential in Connecticut. The senator was criticized last year for his role in handing out big bonuses at AIG, after the insurance giant received taxpayer bailout money. AIG’s Financial Products unit is based in Connecticut.
Dodd initially denied having anything to do with American International Group paying out millions in bonuses, then later acknowledged his role.
Dodd, who is chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, acknowledged to CNN that he was responsible for language added to the stimulus bill to ensure that existing contracts for bonuses at bailout recipients, such as AIG, were honored.
That is from CNN.com today (1/6/10). As I’m sure you know Dodd is from Connecticut, not New York. Dodd is a Democrat and lifetime politician and those whose bonuses he kept sacred while their companies were facing bankruptcy were insurance people primarily. As Chairman of the banking committee he is the single most responsible person for helping out the “greedy” bankers. That’s right– a New England Progressive.
While I agree that the US spends too much on defense, it is still the social programs and feel good grants that year in and year out drain our coffers with no appreciable return. The military industrial complex pushes the technological envelope every day with spin off technologies that help everyone. They also protect and preserve the lives of our military personnel who in turn protect and preserve our lives. We are safer every moment of every day because of our military industrial complex. Is it too expensive? Yes. But compared to most government programs it is money well spent. That is not true for social programs that have enslaved generations to subsistence. The military is also supposed to be paid for by the government in the constitution. Social programs are not. In 2009 the progressives spent more money to save their rich financial friends behinds than the conservatives ever did. Remember Enron? Wrong doing during Clinton, conviction (appealed) during Bush. Don’t kid yourself about progressives doing good things. They don’t. They have lots of money and they choose to keep it for themselves and their family and friends. They protect the rich and they really screw the poor, regardless of the words that spill from their lips. If they would stop spending money like drunken democrats we would not have quadrupled the debt in one year.
It is not progressives who bankrupt the country. We are in the current mess because of the greed of Wall Street Bankers. The country’s central bank, the federal reserve, is printing money like crazy to bail them out big investment bankers, and to keep the faltering economy from sinking to the pits. We stay in a pinch, because so much of our resources are spent on feeding the military-industrial complex, which keeps up in a state of permanent war and war crisis, to benefit the defense industries. ( So warned President Eisenhower, so many years ago.) We pay out the nose , billions of dollars a year to subsidize huge, multi-national agribusinesse Other than on Social Security and Medicare, which people pay into, only a modest percentage of the federal budget is spent on social programs. The cost of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, is budgeted by the current Administation.at $144 billion in fiscal year 2009, $130 billion in 2010, and — $50 billion for 2011 and beyond.
