Recently this “green” President decided that he was going to fund the construction of the first nuclear power plant to be built since Three Mile Island nearly melted down. Considering that President Obama has made it very clear that he only supports “clean” energy such as solar and wind, and not dirty energy such as coal and natural gas, this may seem to be a major move in his policy and more importantly his understanding of the irreplaceable role of cheap energy in the US economy. However some cursory reading between the lines tell a different story entirely. First the company to receive the loan needs to pass the nuclear regulatory’s guidelines and assuming all goes well that will take until 2012. That means those opposed to nuclear power– which includes the vast majority of Obama’s supporters– won’t interfere with the process. An unthinkable proposition. And construction won’t begin until after the next election. So I feel confident in predicting he was for it before he was against it…
The fact that he scuttled the Yuma nuclear dump after billions were spent building it and that leaves no good place to put nuclear waste only proves that he has no intention of truly moving us toward energy independence, especially if it makes us more dependent on nuclear energy. We’ve gone from “shock and awe” to “shuck and jive”.

Hmmm, it seems that there is definitely another meltdown taking place. But it’s apparently a couple of hundred miles south of Three Mile Island.
