I ran across an article about a group called Advent Conspiracy. This group and its message of “Worship fully, Spend less, Give more, Love all” really brings focus to the teachings of Christ and how they apply to Christmas. Yet, if you look at the message, you will find that it resonates with core beliefs held by most of the major religions of the world in regard to faith, hope, charity and love. Even though Advent Conspiracy is Christ-centric in its message, there is plenty there worth taking for those who are not Christian. I urge everyone, of all faiths or none, to reconnect with the true meaning of Christmas and for the season to become a season that belongs to all faiths. It is not just a season about commercialism or the using of Christ’s name, but a time to reflect on the values and teachings that Christ held most dear and that are central to a multitude of the world’s faiths.
I’m sure that if Christ were here on Earth, he would rather us honor His birth by honoring His life’s work than by giving in to commercialism and petty divisions.
Visit http://www.adventconspiracy.org/ for more information and to participate in its projects. Advent Conspiracy’s goal to “Worship fully, Spend less, Give more, Love all” is an example that I can point to and feel proud to be a Christian, as well as a human being. Since that is not always the case, I relish it even more.

Blah blah blah…. same ol same ol Laura.
Consti,
Um, congratulations!?!…And a pat on the back for you–some don’t need to broadcast their charitable works in order to score points in the eyes of others and make themselves feel better about the venom they spew and their general disregard for their fellow men. But working pity and patting yourself on the back is something we have seen from you before, so no surprise there. You go host your Toys-for-Tots, feel good about it and ignore the needs of others the rest of the year. I’d rather that then you do absolutely nothing ever and am thankful that you come out of the self-contained world of the bunker at least once do something for others. But to make yourself into some kind of hero…please!
I don’t need to know personal details about you, nor does anyone else here really. Your words, and there are plenty of them, have done the speaking for you. If you are different then your words suggest, which is the lie? Then why don’t you either live according to your beliefs (which I tend to believe since you feel the need to hide behind a false name-not the mark of one who is proud of what they are saying) or speak solely from personal truth instead of trying to get negative attention from the likes of me, who you claim to care little about. Three year olds do that…oh, and divas too. Which are you? Now that’s a question to ponder…
Next are you going to put someone’s post down because they misspell or use bad grammar? LOL I’m so done with your foolishness and mayhem. I find you amusing, at best, and I shake my head because it means that I have just that much more work to do in your place.
Merry Christmas to you, and may God bless us, EVERYONE!
Lol… You really are in rare form today.
First. “Only you would be able to find a way to Christmas all about you…LOL…and remind us of it instead of keeping it to yourself. I think that’s tasteless.” It has never been about me. As arrogant as you try to make me sound you obviously missed the point. Christmas is a special time for me because it ALSO includes my birthday. Christ and I are homies in that respect.
Second. “Your objection to this group is it’s religious nature,..” Again you are mistaken and apparently can’t read. It’s not the religious nature of the group. It’s posting about it on a blog dedicated to politics. Don’t be ignorant.
Third. “Maybe because it is not about you or takes focus away from the fact that Christmas is YOUR birthday and therefore YOUR holiday, you are a little unbiased in this.” This is just as laughable as the first. And again off the point I was making. But I would expect this from you.
Fourth. “On a side note, you are either the most unlucky person on earth-cancer, poverty, dumpster diver, unemployed, driveby victim, ex-gangbanger, birthday right before Christmas, etc- or you make stuff up. Either way, your subtle working of the pity angle is really tiring.” Never said I was a gangbanger. However I do use my life experiences to serve either as a good example or a bad one. If one doesn’t learn their lesson they are doomed to repeat them. And that last thing I want or expect from you is pity. That’s a liberal want and desire not mine. What does not kill us makes us strong, and actually I consider myself EXTREMELY lucky. What bothers you is you don’t know anything about me.
As usual Laura you are welcome to your opinions. And your personal attacks on me are a badge I wear with pride. It means I am doing something right. And if you want to keep calling me scrooge I will simply remind you that tonight I am holding a benefit for Toys-for-tots. So bahumbug back at you.
Consti,
By the way- Merry Christmas!
Consti,
Only you would be able to find a way to Christmas all about you…LOL…and remind us of it instead of keeping it to yourself. I think that’s tasteless.
Your objection to this group is it’s religious nature, which makes it “inappropriate” in your mind to discuss here. That does not take away from the power of its message, which should be guiding words that should motivate all politicians in their actions. Why, as you would do, post God on public buildings and place images of Jesus all over the place at Christmas if you have no intention of heeding the meaning of His words?
I am not a member of this group. It is a group that focuses on Protestant churches, and as a Catholic, that doesn’t include me. However, that does not take away from their encouragement of people to cut down on consumerism during the holidays, to give to others outside youor immediate circle and to love your fellow man. These should be tenets of society and are therefore incredibly topical to politics, since they should be the principles that I feel should be guiding our politicians.
Maybe because it is not about you or takes focus away from the fact that Christmas is YOUR birthday and therefore YOUR holiday, you are a little unbiased in this.
On a side note, you are either the most unlucky person on earth-cancer, poverty, dumpster diver, unemployed, driveby victim, ex-gangbanger, birthday right before Christmas, etc- or you make stuff up. Either way, your subtle working of the pity angle is really tiring. Maybe you should stop feeling sorry for yourself and using that self-pity to fuel your anger at everything and everyone and realize that other poeple out there have it bad too.
It ain’t all about you and realizing that could be the best Christmas present that you could ever give yourself. Worked for Scrooge!
Laura,
Actually yes, it comes natural. And when someone advocates another group through a site that has nothing to do with it I find that tasteless.
I share a special meaning for christmas. Not only is it Christs day of birth it is also mine. December 24th thank you kindly.
J,
I never begrudge anyone their religious beliefs. As I have stated before all are welcome to believe, and I think it important that people do. However, a religious advocacy group this blog is not. It’s about politics. I’m fine with Laura spreading this message, I just don’t think this is the place for it.
There are reasons I call you my Lib Friend. I love Consti and his heart, he seeks truth, and is not interestede in trifle.
Laura, this is not trifle. It is refreshment. Your quote from Scrooge has stayed with me from a prior article.
Christmas is indeed central to Christ, my Savior, yet as I read much wisdom in Consti’s tradition, I apply them within my own, what of course I beleive to be a revelation og God through Jesus, become flesh and dwelt among us, so that we may know God and accept the ultimate love, “There is no greater love than a man lay down his life for a friend”.
Merry CHRISTmas, and thank you laura for you very good words.
Consti, give the Lib her do!
Do you have to work hard to be such an ass, or does it just come naturally to you? You can’t disagree with the message so you have to come up with something…
I know it must be hard to accept, but the world is not all about you.
Merry Christmas, Mr. Scrooge!
What does this have to do with the 2012 election? Or politics at all? Perhaps you should stay on the subject this site is dedicated to instead of promoting another organization through this site. Or is it that you didn’t like seeing uncle sam on the main page?
