Consti here in the Bunker server room where technology brings the world to my door. In a post Massachusetts environment, just after his one year anniversary President Obama plans on resetting his administration. Hopefully they will get the button right this time. IT people will tell you that often to fix a problem they will reboot (reset) a server. It’s been my experience that seldom this solves the issue. Obama’s plan is three fold; Jobs, a financial overhaul, and blaming Republicans.

Now I will admit that it takes gravitas to admit your faults. Something Bush couldn’t do I will add. Acknowledging a disconnect from the public over the past year is a smart move for Obama. Having to reset your Presidency at the one year mark is telling of your abilities, ideological stance and leadership skills. When you position yourself as the anti-establishment candidate and actually win you become the establishment. I think Obama is learning that the hard way. And candidate Obama that was voted into office isn’t trusted anymore having broken most of his promises after becoming President. I’m sure there will be more “adjustments” as we progress into his term. The course is what makes me scratch my head. But let’s look at this new budding strategy that is trying to cash in on the populist tone of Scott Browns campaign.

Jobs – Myself and several others on this blog and elsewhere can claim an “I told you so” moment. For the last year the public has been suffering under an unemployment level we were told wouldn’t go past 8% with the passage of the stimulus bill. As of today unemployment stands at 10% which means it’s actually 17% if you count those people who are no longer looking for work or benefits have run out. For the past year the focus has been on Healthcare reform not jobs despite polling data that shows it has been the number one concern of the American public. It has taken a full year of the population suffering before the administration does anything substantial? Doesn’t that speak to the claims of arrogance on the part of this administration? Surely it doesn’t show compassion for the population when the focus is on expanding government instead of helping the folks.

Jobs are not expected to return until the end of 2010 or the beginning of 2011 if at all. And this administration has already shown that it’s capable of inflating job numbers. I believe that the public will be painfully reminded of the need for jobs come the mid-terms. And since neither the administration nor congress is capable of creating job one trying to take credit for private sector jobs will fail.

Financial reform – In hopes of capitalizing on the anger against wall street greed Obama has waged war against them stating; “If these folks want a fight, it’s a fight I’m ready to have,” And his going to aggressively go after them limiting the risk they can take and the bonus structure. Never mind that Timothy Geithner was head of the New York fed when the bonuses were allowed to happen. Since then old turbo tax Tim has to go before congress and explain why he advised AIG not to talk about the bonuses that were written into the TARP legislation. It was the Bush/Obama administrations that coined the term “to big to fail” and now to rally against the financial industry that they bailed out is hypocritical. At the time we were told that these companies couldn’t be allowed to go under. Many people asked why not. They should have been allowed to fail in a free market as it’s designed to do. Obama and the Democrats will try to tie the Republicans to Wall Street greed. Again, it takes a year for the administration to focus on fixing the economic crisis and the voters will remember that too. It was the stimulus that Obama signed that bailed out Wall Street; it will be hard for the Democrats to separate themselves from that since stimulus is a signature issue for the Dems to run on.

Blaming the Republicans – One year after his inauguration Obama and his advisors are whining about the problems they inherited from the former administration. Memories of the treatment constituents received at the town halls over the summer of 09 will be hard to purge from the public’s mind.  If the problems of the current Administration stem from the previous one it speaks to the leadership of Obama. After a year in office the public really doesn’t buy into that excuse since it shows a lack of accomplishment on his part. Additionally the American public has heard this from every President over the last 4 administrations. It’s old hat.

Any way you slice it Obama finds himself in a difficult position. Already the sharks are circling the corpse of his presidency. Members of his own party are now pointing to the White House and demanding leadership. With mid-terms coming they are no longer willing to take the risk of writing legislation without direction from the commander and chief. This way come November they can distance themselves from anything unpleasant to the public.

The problem with putting someone on a pedestal as the progressive liberals have Obama is that the balancing act can be too much for one man. Obama who had believed in the hysteria over his candidacy has found the tipping point. The question is will the Democrats unite under him or abandon him as they appear to be doing so far.

I’ve been saying that the implosion was imminent.

Was that a sucking sound I heard?
