Every time he puts his racist foot in his fat mouth, Rush Limbaugh’s fans insist it’s all in good fun. They use words like satirist and provocateur. If stick-in-the- mud progressives or anyone with a modicum of common decency eschews such descriptions, they start waving the First Amendment and the blowhard’s undeniably large audience. He stirred the Reverend Wright pot with the heavy hand of the Imperial Grand Wizard of the KKK,calling Obama a “Halfrican American” during the 2008 Presidential campaign. Limbaugh discards the racist label, of course, blaming it on a culture of political correctness he refuses to participate in. “I’m color blind,” he said during a “Today Show” interview last fall.
But on his radio show he routinely skewers President Obama, often using racist language or subtexts. “We are being told we have to hope Obama succeeds, that we have to bend over and grab the ankles because his father was black, ” he said shortly after Obama’s election. He’s called Obama “an angry black man,” and a “reverse racist, ” a charge he gleefully attached to Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor during her confirmation hearings, too.
On the Wednesday edition of his radio show, Limbaugh–with racism oozing out of his pores–had fun at the expense of New York’s beleaguered Governor David Paterson, who may be charged with filling Eric Massa’s newly vacated seat in Congress. “So David Paterson will get to be the massa for the first time in his life. Interesting,” Rush said.
Hilarious. Really, Rush, there’s nothing funnier than making an (unfunny) throwback joke about slavery and New York’s first African American governor, right? Almost as funny as when you attacked the debate over the “R” word by saying, “Everyone’s all upset because someone called a bunch of retards retards.” We know that was satire because Sarah Palin certified it as such.
Limbaugh’s racist rants cost him his coveted gig as a football analyst and his shot at NFL ownership. So the GOP’s de facto Grand Pooh Bah has paid a personal price for his toxic tongue. Still, he’s behind the microphone, delivering daily diatribes, inciting anger with half truths and brazen lies. And no one ever threatens to pull the plug. I mean what will it take for radio executives and station owners to consult their consciences over their bottom lines? Really how far does this guy have to go before radio honchos will say “Enough?”
Even Imus got tossed off the air briefly. And his temporary exile came as a result of one racially insensitive remark. Yeah, okay, the guy has a history, too, but his is not nearly as malevolent as Limbaugh’s. And, for an old guy, with an inherent racism he has yet to fully cop to, Imus seems to have learned something from his infamous incident. Maybe if they gave Rush a “time out” he, too, would become more reflective about his role and responsibility in the cultural cacophony that has–for whatever inexplicable reason–given him a very powerful and wealthy voice.

AB,
First of all, I feel honored that I, out of everyone who commented, was chosen to respond to.
For the record, I am not crazy about Rush (though, admittedly, have found him humorous and entertaining from time to time) and think that he occasionally gives conservatism a bad name. I have not seen him since his William Shatner interview but I’m glad you “manned” up and acknowledged the irrelevancy. That is a refreshing departure from the normal behavior in here.
Heckuva post, btw, as evidenced by the number of passion-filled responses.
Peace
Hey folks:
Thanks for such a response. All is appreciated. Don’t agree with everything ( and don’t have time or space to respond to all) but that’s the point of a lively conversation and this site.
Sorry, Erik, but Rush is bloating up again. If you see recent video, the weight loss plan isn’t working. Think he lost too much too fast. But, you know what, it isn’t relevant and maybe it is a cheap and easy shot. So sorry, for that.
Laura,
I suggest you follow your own advice. I see no need to adress the comments of a blind zealot.
Consti,
Your maturity continues to astound me…If you have nothing to say, sometimes it is simply better to say nothing at all…
Laura,
Thank you for you comments. They have been duly noted and filed in the round bin. I encourage you to continue to comment and express your opinion. Like all opinions it serves a purpose.
Erik,
Fair enough Brother.
The point I’d like reader’s to understand though is:
The prejudice of our nation’s past resulted from the “De-Humanizing” of a race. Read Jefferson’s comments where he regarded blacks as being “less” than the Caucasian race. Even great men like Martin Luther shared such sentiments. Whereas Jewish people were considered “evil”, blacks were considered “Less”. Less intelligent, less moral, less of a reflection of God, True Racism.
What “I believe” we have today is “Racial Resentments from both sides” and “White Guilt Liberals”, beating their and our collective white backs like the Apostle Paul when his lusts defeated what he knew to be “more” right.
How does one overcome bitterness? I believe the Apostle Paul overcame by laying it down. He soon came to the realization that beating yourself up is not the answer. Bitterness, not skin color, is the problem we have. Guilt of the past, bitterness of being accused of living in the past, bitterness of others not meeting the expectations you have for yourself.
I don’t have the answer. I don’t even comprehend the mindset of those few who live in the past, but I can apprehend the fact that all our issues are based in guilt, fear and bitterness. All negatives, all “sin”.
J Byron,
I mean “more subtle” in that, as opposed to when I was growing up in the 70s and attending a half black / half white inner city school where people would use unbecoming words out in the open either to try to pick a fight or because they knew there wouldn’t be many repercussions, compared to now when a mere whispering of a word makes things hit the fan. The negative sentiment is still apparent but people are being more careful as to when and to whom they utter the garbage.
Consti,
No, I just don’t believe in accusing someone of being racist from a few out of context words. The point that I made in my comments was that the concrete, lifelong ACTIONS of these men did not support the accustations of racism that were brought on by a few statements. Have you read the book or the whole paragraph /page of the book where Reid supposedly made racist comments? No, you didn’t-you went by the headlines or the words used by the media (as you routinely do by headline surfing). Did the media pundits who were calling Harry Reid a racsit print or use the whole paragraph? No, they did not-they only used the two sentences that included the titillating bits. Have any of us heard the whole conversation during which Clinton supposedly made racist statements? No, we haven’t. Has the whole conversation ever been reported? No, it hasn’t. If Reid and Clinton are such blatant racists, how come nothing else was found, even though the press would have fallen all over themselves at the time to uncover more “evidence” of their racism? Because it didn’t exist, because the whole accusation of racism was a crock from the start pounced upon by the GOP and fright-wingers to erode support from liberal whites and minority voters. We already have proof from the GOP’s own documents that they will resort to any fear tactic, no matter how bogus, in order to gain a political advantage.
However, Lott’s entire speech was available, was made publicly in front of an audience and leaves nothing to the imagination-but somehow that’s ignored and he’s okay in your eyes because of how “unfair” he has been treated. You want to make yourself seem noble, but you have done just as much finger pointing about race as anyone else here, while trying to make your GOP example of Lott some kind of pariah by association. He resigned because HE WAS GUILTY- the whole speech, context and all, was recorded and is available in black and white and the intent is clear as day. HE KNEW HE WAS GUILTY, so he resigned. He had assumed that praising and kow-towing to a bunch of old guard white supremacists in their house (Senator Thurmond’s birthday party)would score him points with(and campaign money from) the audience and that it would stay within those four walls because he was among friends and allies. It didn’t, it got out…and Lott got cold busted. End of story.
Reid and Lott are not the same thing, not by a long shot, even though you would like them to be. Do your due diligence. I’m not being deliberately blind, I’m being accurate and fair. Get off your high horse you’re on while accusing men for being something they are not when you haven’t even done your homework. That’s irresponsible and slanderous.
If someone wanted to take a quoted phrase, add a bunch of words and imply a context in them, then add another quoted phrase (as they authors of the book did with Reid-read it for yourself) then any of us could become “guilty” of writing or saying racist language, or anti-or pro-ANYTHING statements for that matter. But does someone doing that make us racist…NO, it doesn’t. THAT is my point. Save calls of racism for those who have actually made racist comments while showing themselves to be racist through their behavior and actions. There are plenty of examples on both sides of the fence. By throwing unfounded accusations of racism around, YOU are using race as a weapon. That makes pointing to actual cases of racism meaningless, like crying wolf.
I really think you of all people should not be talking about being party blind, based on your past track record of comments and your bias, which you have been called out on more than once.
Erick,
More subtle? I say completely different. My gut tells me, it is not like generations past. Now it has “mutated” to an animosity of you look down on me, so I look down on you. I think there is little, I’m better than you, threes lots of “This isn’t Fair”, from both sides.
As soon as you crack the door to address this real problem, you now have white guilt, reverse discrimination, false finger pointing, free speech vs politically correct thought, and a multitude of gray areas in between those to deal with.
How the hell can we even discuss the issue without turning the whirlwind into a tornado?
There is little doubt in my mind that Rush is not prejudice and that President Clinton is not prejudice. We take minutia and turn it into ammunition. How do races and political sides move past the past while all the time firing salvos back and forth?
DFunzy,
Though your tone “sounds” heroic – in defense of the oppressed recipients of racially-charged hate – I can’t help but to wonder where you were when JFesta stated his agenda of wanting to basically bring some kind of harm onto every Conservative AND their children. And that he wouldn’t rest until he accomplished that task. First of all, if that isn’t hate, I can’t imagine what is. Second, if you or I were to randomly select a pool of conservative specimens, my guess is that they would include members of every race and creed.
You were nowhere to be found.
Thanx Consti,
I may talk real gud, but your counter perhaps has more merit.
Damned if we pay attention, damned if we don’t.
I think we need someone with a higher pay-grade to figure this one out.
Silver, we could use some closure on this one.
J Byron,
You know I like and respect you, my blogging brother. But I must respectfully disagree that racism is a thing of the past. I DO agree that it should be. But it is just as prevalent as it has been, just much more subtle. I have done appraisals in areas like Jamaica, Queens, Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn and the South Bronx and, believe me, the animosity and dislike toward me is highly evident. I think, however, that Obama being president has mellowed things out quite a bit due to the fact that, according to what has actually been told me, many people feel that they can no longer use their minority status as an excuse to not succeed. Personally I think that is phenomenal since all people are created equal and now many are now being accountable to take on the role of which they are capable.
But the grim reality remains that racism is alive and well (or should I say alive and sick) and is all around us (for example, there is an express road that runs between Queens and Brooklyn that, for years, was called the Interboro Parkway. About 12 years ago, however, its name was changed to the Jackie Robinson Parkway yet there are still a lot of people who live in its shadow who refuse to use the new name). It is just that there have been elements put in place that makes it more difficult to express it in an “acceptable” manner, mostly because it has been used (legitimately or not) to end people’s careers and/or ruin their reputations.
I suppose the only things that can be done is to continue to aim for harmony and hold people’s feet to the fire when they say something off-color. But it is difficult to unteach decades of bigoted upbringings. Thank goodness that neither of my parents were prejudiced (despite both coming from tiny, backwoods Oklahoma towns – go figure) and that trickled down to me. But I have backwoods cousins who do not share my sentiment.
Peace Out
J Byron Swain,
Again as eloquently put as ever. And big picture is spot on.
I however am tired of political hacks hiding behind race like Harry Reid was hiding behind that child promoting healthcare. Perhaps I am old school but I find the casting of race cards not only offensive but dishonest. It does a disservice not only to the person accused of it (often unfairly), but to minorities themselves. Anyone who allows themselves to be used in that manner as a bully club against speech is what we would call a “tool”. Desperate times call for desperate measures so drag out the kids and the minorities as human shields. I call shenanigans on that.
I respect your opinion and views, but I can no longer sit idly by and let my fellow Americans be used in that manner without speaking my mind. Or let them be accused of being racist, terrorists, evil mongers, and baby killers as many were last summer over the town hall meetings across this country. All for expressing their right to free speech!
Dfunzy and I agree that racism should be called out when it happens. Even reverse racism should. Unfortunately many are too easy to dismiss racist comments when it comes to their particular political party. As I stated before the only people talking about race are the politicians and race hustlers that enable them. I don’t see it being about race it’s about speech and it’s suppression.
Take a deep breath… smell that? It’s the Dem desperation….
Cheers!
My friends,
I for one am tired of spending so much effort on a topic that should have died on the vine a generation ago. A bunch of us conservatives pleading our case that we could care less about the color of skin and trying to defend our brothers political, and a bunch of liberal superheroes all out to defend the poor helpless victims of said conservatives. Come on, really?
I think we are at a point where the superheroes can hang up their capes and let those they see as needing their help fend for themselves. I for one believe they are quite capable and have all legal means, primarily due to the conservatives overpowering the dems in past generations.
We could spend another generation asking each other, “What do you mean by You People”, or yell Ah-Ha! when some white guy say’s some of my best friends are black.
Let the race baiters continue their witch hunts for white insensitivity, let the Howard Sterns and Rush’s make off color comments for a laugh, Let black leaders continue their diatribes against police and whites in general.
The more we try to explain why we are not the prejudice ones and the other side is, really, we just give life to a corpse of the past.
I’m sure there are pockets of the “old style” prejudice out there, but the “legal” blood supply has been cut off and those cancers will die if left alone. Let’s be real, we just “Overwhelmingly” elected a black President, who if he was not black would never have won. That is a huge statement about whites in this era. Being a racist in 2010 is like being a witch in medieval Europe, something you should want to hide, hopefully those in hiding will pass with nil effect upon our very non-prejudice society.
Laura,
Funny how you make excuses. As Defunzy said and I agree with race baiters should be called out REGUARDLESS OF PARTY. But again I see you are willing to give a pass to the people on your side of the isle while condemning others for the same actions. At this point I would refer you to the definition of hypocrisy and SPECIAL PRIVILIDGE. I guess it’s my fault for over estamating your common sense.
Dfunny,
I find it incredibly hard to believe that you have never told an off color joke. You must be one hell of a morally perfect person. Sainthood should be in your cards. However, as you say and I will repeat for you “Our Lord teaches us to love and to respect each other.” So looking at a ONE SIDED attempt to pin racisms on everything but the Democrats who participate in it as well is less than honest. If you are going to call out racists THEN CALL OUT ALL OF THEM!! Not just the ones you disagree with politically. Rush Limbaugh is not a politician, perhaps you should worry about the REAL people with power instead of a blowhard on the radio who can’t write legislation.
As I stated before. You can do better than that D.
I meant to sat NOT read…
Consti,
You have obviously readthe full words of Trent Lott’s speech to understand the context of what he said. It’s pretty obvious and blatant about what he said and Lott himself knew it well enough to resign over it because he knew there was no way to excuse it.
I wasn’t going to respond to these outrageous personal comments from a poster here who sometimes get so carried away in making points that he loses himself.
First he wrote: I “question your “faith”.
My faith? How dare he question any ones faith? Oh, he dares because he gets carried away.
Then he moves on trying to defend race bating by implying that everyone does it, and that he suspects me. So he asks: “Ever tell a pollack joke?”
My answer is No. I never have. Do I need to point out that the word “pollack” is very offensive to Polish people? Have I ever told a joke that mocks a racial or ethnic group? No.
He asks me: “How about a mexican joke?”
Again my answer is No. I have not.
He asks me.:” Or one about the retarded? ”
He has moved from the topic of race bating to the topic of mocking disabled persons. Maybe this poster doesn’t realized that he has changed the topic. He does get carried away. My answer to this question is No.
He returns to the topic. Asks, “Jewish joke?”
Again, I answer No.
Then this poster becomes down right insulting.
” If you tell me you haven’t then I will have to seriously doubt the truth of your comments in the future.”
Sir, let me tell you this. Race bating is wrong. It is wrong today. It was wrong yesterday, and it will be wrong tomorrow. The topic here is race bating and about people who use it as a normal course to put across their ideas or even to so-call entertain. I was a little surprised that some bloggers here feel compel to defend race baiters who they think share their political world view. Some have flippantly compared a slip of the tongue by certain political and news personalities to people who have made a career out of race baiting, and with no apologies. These folks are defending hate by saying everybody hates, not just folks on our side. They are behaving as if hate and race bating is okay, because as they falsely claim everybody does it. Everybody does not engage in race bating. Thankfully only a few public personalities do so. Why is it so important to denounce race baiters? It is important to do so to keep a civil society.
Erick.
I know. Sarcasm is hard to hear in text
Like I said in my article this so called younger generation is for the most part color blind. Of course there are the few who aren’t, but then again there are people who think 9/11 was staged too. There’s no accounting for intelligence. My cousin is 27, my fiancée is 25, my best friends kids that I lived with were 18, 16 and 14. Granted not enough for a “poll” but none see color, but all laugh at the jokes. Does that make them racist? (Rhetorical) Not really. We have all laughed at inappropriate jokes. Does that make us racist? (Rhetorical again)
You are right about this as a political tool in that it’s effectiveness has lessened. I was just drawing the highlighter across why. They wanted a color blind generation and got one. So playing the race card is a harder argument to make. And makes them look like silly old codgers.
Consti,
Crying “racist” no longer works as well as it once did. When that word was spoken at one time, people used to run in fear and definitely shut their mouths. Now, the accusers are getting called on it more and more because they usually say it when they have no other substantial argument. Does this mean that racism doesn’t exist? Of course not. But I and others are not going to fall for that nonsense if/when (1) it isn’t true and (2) someone is trying to hide behind it in order to avoid intellectual honesty.
AB Arkawy,
Not that it matters or has any relevance to the conversation, but Rush has lost tons of weight. The fat references are now obsolete. For the record, I haven’t listened to him for almost a year but I have seen him a couple of times on tv lately (including his guest appearance on William Shatner’s talk show).
How politicians love to categorize people in to groups that can be easily manipulated. The terms Black and Hispanic, as they are popularly used and thought of; that is in categorically racial, are bogus.
Spanish is spoken in many dialects and countries, by many races of people. It isn’t in any way limited by or indicative of race. Hispanic just happens to work for political hacks and propagandists. Spanish is an Occidental tongue that was assimilated along with other cultural elements from Spain by generations of people in southern parts of North, Central and South America. English language and cultural influences underwent the same kind of assimilation here in ‘parts north.’ Europeans and indigenous people liberally shared genetic material for many centuries. There is no such thing as ‘La Raza’ any more than an ‘Arian’ race. They are fictions. Resistance to imposition here is no more racist than resistance to English language and culture imposition would be in Peru, Argentina, Cuba or even Spain for that matter.
I’ve already covered the ridiculous practice of singling out every person with any known African ancestry as ‘Black.’ It is a Jim Crow racist practice by definition, that most Americans with African heritage are complicit in imposing on themselves with the help of politicians who want to keep them on the political plantation.
Go ahead. There’s an opportunity for the prehensile to attempt labeling me as a hater or racist because I’ve used and ethnically related term or stereotype to advance an idea; an attempt to make it resonate from the heart to the head.
While you’re at it, pick up a copy of a book called ‘It’s O.K. to Leave the Plantation’ by C. Mason Weaver
I know the cover picture will cause some to think he’s Black. Don’t be fooled. He’s a man with an American mind and attitudes who’s ancestry happens to include people from Africa. He considers himself a Conservative and seems to fit the profile. He’s clearly to my right but has some refreshing outlooks.
SilverWun,
Eloquent as ever.
Pembix,
Refer to the article I wrote “Let’s talk about hate” You will find links to the references there for both statements about Reid and Clinton. Happy reading…
Laura,
Are you the excuse police? If you are going to condemn one then you MUST condemn the other. Else wise that is called SPECIAL PRIVILAGE. And the American public really dislikes that. I can’t believe an intelligent person as yourself can’t see that plainly. And I notice you don’t mention Obama’s hypocrisy for forgiving Reid and going after Trent Lott.
CRY RACIST kids… it will make your opponents scatter.
L,
You know what? I think you are very correct. I don’t think any of the dems mentioned are racist. Neither do I think Rush or Clarence Thomas or just about any conservative is racist. I beleive the type of racist mindset of the past is just, past.
When will it stop. Below are the 2007 race and poverty stats for our country.
By race/ethnicity and family status.
Among married families: 5.8% of all people[17] including
5.4% of white persons, [18]
8.3% of black persons, [19] and
14.9% of Hispanic persons (of any race) [20] were in poverty.
We are within 2.9% of each other. Close enough. Hell I d gladly take the 2.9% difference with the blacks if we could just stop all the race crap!
I Believe there is a day coming when men of all colors can say what s on their minds without fear of being called a racist. I believe a day is coming when skin color doesn t matter. I also believe sadly, it won t be in my lifetime due to the continuing guilt of liberal whites and the marketing of blacks as victims in this, most unprejudiced, country.
The peopel who agree with Rush or who want to see a “white” America better get an attitude adjustment now, while thet can, or they and their children will be creating a very hard road for themselves.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_white_minority
For those who think that those programs that benefit “minorities” are unfair because they don’t benefit the majority of Americans need to look at just what the word “minority” really means…
You want to know why the Dems have not condemned Reid and Bill Clinton? Because they viewed the life’s actions of these men in regard to race over a few sentences taken out of context.
About 20 or so pages futher into the same book that contained the compsosed “quote” from Harry Reid (that were actually two phrases connected by words written by the author- check it for yourself) is the conversation held between Reid and Obama where Reid was one of the first people to encourage Obama to run for the presidency. Not the actions of a man who thinks poorly of blacks or looks down on Obama…Bill Clinton was an active member of the Civil Rights movement during the 1960′s and was a physical participant in protests held in the South, with all of the physical danger that entailed. Apparently the memory of what happened to whites who supported Civil Rights in the South during the 1960′s is a short one for some people.
Did the two men stick their feet in their mouth? Possibly, but who really knows, since the media has taken words out of their surrounding context and used them to color the motivations of two men whose actions have spoken to the direct opposite of racism. I’d be willing to believe they didn’t.
As far as Consti trying to imply that Jimmy Carter is a racist, well it’s obvious he doesn’t know much about Carter, where he lives, what he has done, or the state of Georgia. I recommend he and anyone else who does not know look up the history of the town of Americus and how Jimmy Carter has been involved with it and supported it.
Please, can anyone tell me just what Rush Limbaugh has done for positive race relations that would excuse his words or show that his motivations are anything more than either racism or a willingness to stoke whatever flame necessary at whatever cost in order to bump his profile and market share? Until you can show me what Limbaugh has personally done, he deserves just as little of the doubt as those who rush to indict have given Clinton, Reid or Carter.
D’F,
You are right on this issue, he has changed from a most despotic history, and we all have skeletons. To bring up a past of someone truly repented is a low blow and not worthy of anyone who claims the faith that you correctly point out, I do.
That being said, Consti’s response is still correct.
I would like to backstop Mr. Tution – please remind us bloggers here where your condemnations were posted for those statements by Reid and Clinton?
“Did Harry palms Reid respect Obama when he made his racist comments? Did Bubba respect Obama when he said this ‘Guy would have been getting us coffee a few years ago”?
How about Dan Rather just this weekend telling someone that “Obama could not sell Watermelons to traffic stopped by the State Troopers”? OMG!?
If you can’t cite your verbal or written published complaints for these Democrats making these statements then you should have absolutely no credibility to complain about a Radio host, in my humble opinion.
Hallicinogens capable of causing even a marginally educated person to fear genocide in the USA are more dangerous than anything that can be broadcast by a radio personality. Perhaps re-hab should be considered as a starting point for ‘making it back.’
If causes are non-substance related (my guess), one test would be to check under the bed with a flashlight. If the comrades have any new visitors down there wearing brown shirts, immediately call 911 and notify the local blue shirts with all the details. In California, they offer a prizes for the most accurate reports. One can win a three day, expense paid stay with some other really interesting people who have their own stories to swap.
Even in these times of such strident political disagreements, the likelyhood that our government will start rounding up people of this race or that religion at the behest of a handful of radio entertainers is absurd to those of us who are able to separate the ‘wheat from the chaff.’
If only they could really see or hear themselve warning about genocide; alarmed by the POSSIBILITY of racist motives for humor other possible elements and causes that ideological blindness prevents them from grasping.
The same frenzy, bordering on religious zealotry fuels the ‘Global Warming’ juggernaut. When the ideologically devout are challenged by information and alternative scientific possibilities, instead of inspiring their curiosity, it induces a frenzied stampede to ‘defend the faith’ with athe new and improved mantra of Climate Change! Perception, even amidst record cold temperatures, is thwarted yet again by ideologically induced blindness. Use of the word change is arguably psychological evidence of a symbolic fig leaf.
I think if the Domestic Genocide, Man Mande Global Destruction, Jesus Rapturing, Big Corporate Conspiracy factions would join together and form their own party, BOTH major political parties could be purged of elements that are driving sane people from their ranks.
DFunny,
“Our Lord teaches us to love and to respect each other.”
Did Harry palms Reid respect Obama when he made his racist comments? Did Bubba respect Obama when he said this ‘Guy would have been getting us coffee a few years ago”? What about the condemnation of Democrats who delighted in the heart attack suffered by Cheney? So easy to point fingers at anyone BUT a democrat aren’t you?
Sour grapes.
The Democrats must be really desperate if they are still going after Limbaugh. Hell they go after each other enough why not add to the mix. Air America failed because no one wants to hear a bunch of whiners tell them h0w terrible this country is.
You Dfunzy are better than all this nonsense and the fact that you buy into it only makes me question your “faith” further. If racisism is so terrible why not denounce YOUR party’s history of it? I’ll tell you why, it doesn’t serve your purpose.
Let me ask you DFunny. Ever tell a pollack joke? How about a mexican joke? Or one about the retarded? Jewish joke? If you tell me you haven’t then I will have to seriously doubt the truth of your comments in the future.
J,
You wrote: “The most senior member of their Congress is a former Grand Dragon of the KKK. ”
I am glad that you included the word “former”. As a man of faith, you understand that we all sin, and that many of us seek redemption and do not repeat certain sins we may have committed. The Senator who you are referencing has placed his klan past far into his past. He has admitted that his klan membership was wrong, and in the past thirty or so odd years, has been so different from the klansman he was in his past. As a Christian, let me say this: To rail against that senator is not Christian, to rail against persons who are actively race baiting is a very Christian thing to do. Our Lord teaches us to love and to respect each other.
A.B. Arkawy,
Thank you for this post.
A person can be partisan without making racially charged statements. A commentator can be pointed, even nasty, without race bating. Race baiting has brought us many ugly nights in our nation’s history and has torn and destroyed nations.
Also to point out bigotry where is is clear is not witch hunting, it is performing the duty of a good and responsible member of the human race.
When some one points out that Rush Limbaugh has a history of making racists statements, defenders of Rush Limbaugh loudly scream — Rush does too — that he is not a racist but an entertainer.
Well, maybe in his heart Rush Limbaugh isn’t a racist, but he sure to hell plays a good one on the radio.
Also any defender of Israel should know the lesson learned from The Holocaust is this: that racism leads to genocide. The Holocaust just didn’t happen overnight, but was the results of years, centuries, of race baiting. This is the reason why all of us should be vigilant against race baiting.
Again, A.B. Arkawy, thank you for this post.
Hey Villagers! I found a whole bunch of withches we can burn!
http://www.whowillwinthe2012election.com/lets-talk-about-hate/
Radio Chick,
Witch Hunter’s of the past merely had to point at who you didn’t like and yell witch. Then the accused had to prove they were not. A much more difficult task than those who just pointed the finger.
Todays equivilent are the Racist Hunter’s. They try to destroy men and women who do not agree with them by pointing and yelling racist.
Funny though, Absolutely Nobody who agrees with them politically is ever pointed out as a witch or racist. The most senior member of their Congress is a former Grand Dragon of the KKK, few know because there are no witches in the Church of Liberalism. As long as you go along with the sacraments of killing babies and socializing our economy, you simply cannot be a witch or a racist.
Well, good dunking.
Commercial radio is just that. There are no central ‘executives’ who decide whether a program is broadcast. Stations are independent and will broadcast whatever the public wants to hear. They just don’t want to hear whining by people who are eternally disatisfied whether their party is in power or not.
I listen to Rush both Rush and Ed Schultz routinely. They are admittedly partisans. Both say some pretty crazy things sometimes. What makes them both successful is that they don’t whine and carp. They are engaging and entertaining whether you agree with them or not.
This is a capitalist system without (yet) central control over what people may say or listen to. If you can’t resist the temptation to try and shut the opposition up instead of countering with intelligent, FACTUAL, compelling arguments change the station.
We’re still free to do that too – for awhile.
