NYC Community Board OKs Ground Zero Mosque Plans

Talk about ironic.

I realize that NYC is the liberal mecca for the east coast – even a mini socialistic empire - led by King Michael, one of the CFR’s (Council on Foreign Relations) babies. But to erect a mosque near Ground Zero – the location of the worst attack on American soil in our normally proud history – is nothing less than atrocious.

Regardless of where your opinion of 9-11 lies – whether you have come to accept the story the way it has been fed to you by the mainstream media, or if you are a bonafide 9-11 Truther – only one of two scenarios should have taken place:

(1) No religious facility of any faith should have been erected;

(2) A site representing all religions should have been erected.

But out of any possible action or inaction, the one at the top of the page is the most insensitive.

Why? Because for those of us who would have chosen (1) or (2), it is an instantaneous violation. And for most everyone else, it is a spit in the face due to the fact that, extremist or not, the perpetrators were Muslims who attended mosques. I can’t imagine the parents of murdered daughters building a Ted Bundy Memorial on their neighborhood street or, worse, their local governments doing it without their approval. It’s equally difficult for me to envision Timothy McVeigh’s name inscribed on a plaque and being mixed in among the 168 others who died at the former Murrah building in OKC. After all, he was an eventual fatality relevant to that debacle.

Yet the New York City Community Board OKs the building of this mosque.

Is it possible that this is simply an epic example of over-compensation? That they are so concerned about offending Muslims (as has been evidenced by less profiling even during appropriate situations and immense hiring of Muslims in airports around the country, etc.) that they are bending over backwards like an Olympic gymnast to prove that they aren’t bigoted? Even if that is so, they are offending 90% more of the people by doing it. Oh I am sure that there are going to be a horde of liberals who won’t have a problem with the decision though I can’t help but to wonder how many of those same liberals directly or indirectly lost someone in one of those 9-11 events. My guess is, in that case, that the embrace of this lunacy might not be so tight.

Most of us who know basic history remember what happens when we appease those who have only proven to exploit the vote of confidence. The Hitler/ Chamberlain example is always the easiest to remember since Hitler, whom we refer to and talk about much too often, quickly abandoned his agreement and started kicking Europe in kneecaps without delay. With this said, is it possible that those among the NYC Community Board are hoping that their kissing up will deter future terrorism? Yeah, good luck with that. What will likely happen is that some teenager who has the gall to spray paint profanity-laden graffiti on the mosque will get beheaded and have his young, blue-eyed, golden-haired skull stuck on a stick and placed outside the front doors as a warning to all of the other-religious or non-religious, law-abiding, tax-paying citizens that they had better show respect lest the same thing happen to them.

I anticipate that the protests this action has birthed will eventually make the Tea Party Movement look like a marching band car wash fund raiser in comparison.

I pray that some entity in NYC finds a way to overturn that community council’s hideous decision to allow the building of the mosque! I read on at least two other sites that the Imam of this proposed center is connected – via his activist father – to the Muslim Brotherhood and that the $50M? $100M? funds needed for this monstrosity (15 storeys high!) will probably come from Saudi Arabia and the usual suspects (as did the funds for another mosque connected with this father-son team did many years ago). Make no mistake about it: Shari’a is the goal for America and the West, and a new world caliphate is the long-term dream of all Muslims (even the supposedly “moderate” and “peaceful” ones who remain silent out of fear and/or acquiescence, but will not speak out). If we value Freedom and the Liberties enshrined in our Constitution, then we had better fight this source of evil, suppression and slavery (“dhimmitude”) with every fibre of our being!!

Remo,

I don’t have a problem with a mosque being erected in general. But why within a stone’s throw of Ground Zero and why now? As for the other religious buildings you mentioned, if they weren’t built after 9/11, then it’s a moot point.

St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church, The Jewish Community Council, and Trinity Church are within blocks of each other. That means blocks away from Ground Zero. You really think now that there’s a mosque in the area where there were muslims killed who didn’t hijack planes but were murdered as well is some subplot align with fanatical muslims?

Didn’t Howard Zinn spend his life’s work bringing this Colonial trope to life as when in every sense of Western colonization that after a civilization was stolen or at least replaced/moved, that an alter or obelisk or place of worship was used as marker.

Elena,

I had a long post, I somehow lost, I shall nto repeat, other than to say I enjoyed your most recent post, and your wonderful common sense!
As to you question at the end of the latest article, Reagan (1964), warning us away from loosing our freedoms.

Consti,

Erik was in no way incorrect, I just want everybody to share my priorities. Oh I can dream!

Elena,

I love you commone sense. I also enjoyed thumbing through your fine articles. As to the last, Reagan in the 60′s, regarding being careful not to lose the freedoms our Fathers intended for us.

Consti,

My very good friend Erik, is not incorrect, he was askew from my way of thinking on what most would see as a minute point. The point of his article as always was well thought and presented. However, we are sliding down a slope of poor footing, repeatedly offending none in the name of progress. Our very foundations are built on Judea-Christian thought, I will not compare it (even in regard to radical elements) to the darkness of the Muslim tradition.
Let them follow their Jihads, enslave their females, know not the grace of the God of the Bible and not to be offensive as to note many other recognized practices universal with this “religion”, celebrate their ways in their countries, not attempt to force conversion here at the expense of our way of life, and CERTAINLY not to lump our foundation with theirs as to remain Unoffensive.

In essentials unity, in nonessentials liberty, and in all things charity. Truth MUST be in ALL aspects.

The imagery is depressing. There is still a gaping space where the World Trade Center stood. And now the ideoogical force behind the attack will be represented audaciously almost in its place. This must feel like a victory to Osama Bin Laden.

J Byron,

“Remember the Movie “The 4th of July”, the President looks into the aliens eyes, and say’s, what can we do to make peace, the alien responded “Die”. Well, that’s very much like the radical Muslims we fear.”

As a movie buff I hang my head in shame for not thinking of this as you have framed it. Kudos for putting a visual to the reality of the animosity they hold for us.

However, with all due respect, I think you are missing the meaning of Erik’s article. I don’t think (and I am sure he can speak for himself) that he is condoning appeasement. In fact if I am reading it right that is what he is trying to point out. The thumbing of the nose by the Muslim community that was mostly SILENT after 9/11.

Personally I would put a hot-dog stand there instead to celebrate the fact that a free-market economy which Al Qaeda (and apparently the left) seek to destroy. I say put a hot-dog stand there to celebrate the resilience of the America People. You can call it Democracy Dogs… and don’t forget the freedom fries!

;-)

Just my two centavos…

JByron,

I am a firm believer in “equal time”. When Christians, though our viewpoint is correct, try to monopolize an issue, it inevitably backfires and we lose ground. For example: In my county it is now illegal to place a nativity scene in public places and it is not permitted to mention the name of Jesus in the schools in my school district, even at Christmas. We could try to force the issue and likely lose. Or perhaps we could use the strategy where we would allow the Jews and Muslims to display their holiday spirit as well. Since the Gospel message is Truth and God’s Word doesn’t return void, this would allow us to legally discuss our faith and converts would be a result.

You may possibly view my article as “compromise” – the kind with the attached negative conotation. I view it as a necessary compromise in this case if it means that (1) There is no mosque erected at all or (2) Christianity and Judaism are equally represented. Since I live approx 60 miles from that slimy, stench-filled, liberal hang out known as NYC (though it is an incredibly awesome tourist attraction) and, thus, recognize the uphill battle we conservatives face here, compromise in the positive sense is not a bad thing. Besides, we also can’t forget that not all Muslims are bad nor do they all represent the radical sect, though I would certainly have a lot more respect for them if their leaders were more diligent in demonizing such hideous acts. Instead, many seem afraid to do so and I am guessing it is due to the huge vacuum inside the religion that makes it uncool to speak against your own.

In closing, perhaps y0u failed to notice that I used words such as “atrocious” and compared the mosque to a Ted Bundy and Timothy McVeigh memorial as well as using an infidel-like analogy of beheading and jamming the head on a stick. If those comments fall under the umbrella of “appeasement”, then I suppose I really need to get my act together.

Peace

Erik,

My Blogging Brother, You may be unintentionally sharing the same virus of appeasement as the liberals we are frustrated by. Perhaps a Democrat sneezed on you.

I would expect (even excuse) your two points from less enlightened bloggers, but you get a tongue lashing! “To whom much is given, much is expected”.

“In my opinion”, you are on the appeasement train yourself. Trying to look less radical and more moderated by lumping Christians with Muslims. Other writers like Silver or O’Really (O’Rielly) would find your article “right-on”. I however appeal to your sense of right.

Why not build a Christian church on the site? That’s who were killed for the great part, and more so, that’s why they were killed. A Synagogue would be equally acceptable.

Remember the Movie “The 4th of July”, the President looks into the aliens eyes, and say’s, what can we do to make peace, the alien responded “Die”. Well, that’s very much like the radical Muslims we fear.

When is the last time you saw Christians or Jews celebrating in the streets from Palestine to Egypt to New York and here in Seattle, celebrating the death of 3,000 people of any stripe. We had a news black-out here in Seattle about the Muslim community (Some) who met at a cafe for a celebration of 9-11. It ended overflowing into the street. How many American Mosques openly condemned 9-11 in the year after, few to none.

The day you can show me thousands of Christians or Jews in the streets celebrating the deaths of Muslims, the women making their camel call noises, that’s the day I will say, yeah, there are similarities.
