Lou Dobbs is bad for America’s health. The border blasting broadcaster seems to be joining the crazies in the Obama “Birther” movement. He almost agreed with a whackadoodle caller on his radio show, who questioned the President’s citizenship and decreed everything he does in office ” illegal.” Dobbs said, “I’m starting to think we have a document problem…you suppose he’s… no, I’m not going to use the word ‘undocumented.’”
Come on, Lou. Cash in that one-way ticket to Crazytown and come home. Hawaii was admitted to the Union as the 50th state on August 21, 1959. President Obama was born there in 1961. Surely you don’t need to be a math whiz to recognize the guy made the citizenship grade by nearly two years. I know, I know, you find the birth certificate, which can be viewed online, even on the right wing site, World Net Daily, ” peculiar.” Something about the raised stamp? You want him to produce a “long form” birth certificate. And if he came up with that you’d demand affidavits from dead doctors, dental records, DNA samples and Obama’s bronzed baby shoes.
Really, Lou, you don’t want to be like that cuckoo-for-Cocoa Puffs woman who stopped that Delaware town meeting, waving her birth certificate in a moldy baggy from the 1950′s and a little plastic flag, demanding to get her country back. She ordered everyone to recite the Pledge of Allegiance right there and then, just because it made her feel all warm and patriotic, I guess, while screaming, ” He’s a Kenyan citizen.” The fact that everyone complied was pretty scary. Funny, too, but still scary.
There are nutso “Birthers” who are filing lawsuits to get out of military service. I’m sure some will use Obama’s so-called “illegitimate” presidency to not pay their taxes, not eat their vegetables or God forbid, stop watching American Idol.
Those of us still exploring life in Saneville know racism is at the bitter, cynical heart of the “Birther” movement. These people just can’t accept a Black man as their president. That whack job who killed the poor guard at the Holocaust Museum was one of them. You don”t want to be among them, Lou. Really you don’t. Rush, maybe. But not you, Lou. You’re not that far gone. Not yet.
And now when America is in so much economic turmoil, when so many people are really hurting, when we have to tackle big issues like health care reform, job creation and education, not to mention all those pesky global problems, we need voices like yours that had once been so strong and clear to empower, educate and encourage. Not to distract divide, deride.
Go ahead, Lou, return that Crazytown ticket before it’s too late. I’m pretty sure the new health plan won’t cover all that extensive psychiatric treatment those wackos need. Don’t be one of the them. Give yourself a good mental floss and come home.

Lou, all I can say is ALOHA! Hawaii is definitely a state and was when Obama was born there. His mother is an American. Thus he is an American too.

Oh, they were out there then, too. Don’t you think if there was any validity to this argument the Clinton campagin would have unearthed it? And the crazies were out during the general election in full force. The irony, of course,is that McCain wasn’t born in the U.S. But since he came into the world on an American naval base, it’s okay. The whole business is ridiculous. If you hhave an American parent, you’re a citizen, so it shouldn’t matter where you were born. But Obama was born on American soil.
The time to ask these questions was while he was gearing up for his primary run, not after. Like GW Bush in 2000, once he’s in office let it go. All you do then is, as you said, create division at a time when there needs to be unity.
Let it GO people, spend your energy on the things that truly matter, and just make sure the safeguards are in place for it to not happen again.
