If You Were King You’d………………..

How bout a little game my psychology prof used play.

The year is 1776,our first King George accepted the governance of our great new nation. Pretty much everything else remains the same. Both world wars, the economy, societal evolution and our current situation.
Today however is special. A coronation has the nation and the worlds attention. Upon the passing of King Herman (known as little Lord PeeWee as a youth before ascending to the throne), the Royal Septor is being handed to newly found blood line kin, J Byron The 1st. A King who is both handsome and wise, although a tad chubby and heretofore has purchased his clothes off the rack.

The new King has inherited a multi trillion dollar debt, well over 50% of his subjects are to one degree or receiving state monies while never being obligated for any repayment, and a full 20% of the country is on the government payrolls, and they make 30% more for the same work with better benefits than the non-state workers, not to mention many take on a God complex, treating citizens rudely, and having agreements that make them almost impossible to fire. 20% of the best producing citizens are paying 80% of all the taxes, while the least producers are coddled and pay nothing, except small portions of their own entitlements.

King Herman just finished a world tour where he apologized to all the ungrateful Europeans whom with our might, money and blood have kept them free these many years, he bowed to those who would destroy us if they only had the power, and intentionally weakened our resolve to stand against both great communist blocks who have always publically stated the want to see us fall. All the while reducing our military and scrapping our space based defense years ago, now very much regretting it. He snubbed those countries like England and Poland who put their necks on the line for us, and turned his head when his new friends the Russians went into Georgia to retake a free people we promised to protect.

The Kingdom of Mexico have flooded us with their unemployed. Our unemployment rate is over 10%, almost twice that counting the unregistered, under employed, and state subsidized. Coincidently, almost exactly the rate of illegal workers and foreign registered workers.
The 20% who pay for almost all of these problems are now being told that since Herman promised to to make them pay for illegal’s health care, he left instructions to make them all legal. Not full citizens, just legal so that they can all get medical attention at the expense of the 20%.
I am a King who does not want to have the masses rise up and bring a giatine to the Throne room, and I do not care to behead the rabble-rousers. But I am king and can change anything. What to do?
My first proclamation is, citizens first. If you are able bodied and can’t find a job, you can take one from anyone who has illegally and criminally entered this country for the benefits of a citizen.
Next, a 20% flat tax for everyone. NO OTHER TAXES, no penalties for success, no need to hide money offshore, no need for the IRS, no need for locating corporations offshore. Investment (risk taking) will not be punished, profit good, poverty bad, simple.

Government would keep their noses out of everyone’s business. We shall guard the boarders and keep the peace.
Drugs and sex arrangements of any kind would be one’s own business as long as it didn’t cause you to infringe on the freedoms of others.
The military would be re-built. We would finish star wars, and divert the trillions in bogus social and pork barrel to secure our borders properly, the primary directive of the 1st Kings Constitution.
We would immediately cut all foreign aid. We would only engage in war as it needed to protect our own country. We would stop saving the bacon of the ungrateful, and bring all our men home where they belong.
Aside from having my own Royal McDonalds installed at the palace, and have a royal guard track DFunzy down and poke him with a stick daily, what else needs to be done or undone?
What would you do if you were King? Maybe for brevity, the first 3 things.

That’s crazy ol’ Dfunzy for you. He’d rather rant than participate.

Lol… I remember this one from my freshman year. Lets see….

By royal decree:

Any company with more than 25% of its workforce (non-managerial) located overseas would be taxed an additional 20% of said employees salary per employee. Thus retaining jobs within the realm that would otherwise be sent elsewhere.

Any company hiring H1B visa workers would pay an additional 20% of said employees salary per employee. Thus encouraging the hiring of those within the realm.

Any company that opens or runs a production facility within the realm and employees 95% of it’s workforce from the realm would receive a tax credit of 10% of the total non-managerial payroll to encourage a return to production within the realm.

Any and all illegal aliens found within the realm will be banished, their accounts seized, and would be banned for 1 year from returning to the realm. Repeat offenders will be jailed for 1 year at their own expense prior to being banished. Any employer found to have retained illegal workers would face a 20% tax per workers salary. (This will discourage illegal immigration by removing the motivation for immigration.)

Any and all legislation proposed in government would be required to be publically posted. And no vote will be allowed for 7 days after the legislation is posted to said public.

All elected officials regardless of post or position will be required to take a 1 year break from government at the end of every elected term. Thus career politicians would be required to step down after every term to minimize the corruption of their office.

Any elected official can be removed from office at any time by a 2/3 vote of their constituents’. Thus if citizens of a state feel that their representative is failing in their duty to the public said official can be removed immediately. Removal of an elected official in this manner would trigger an automatic special election to find a replacement within 90 days.

Any government official or employee who is found to have failed to pay their taxes will immediately be released from service and prevented from working in government for 5 years. Additionally said tax evader will be subject to criminal punishment with a minimum 10 year sentence per offence.

Now I know what a couple of people will say about this, especially coming from me. And as much as I hate taxes, intrusive government, I believe it’s time that the tax code was used according to it’s proper place in government. As a tool for good. So let the comments begin from those select few who would take my money and give it to others. So long as it’s not their money that’s taken. Sip, sip… ah… that kool-aid is good!

(I’ll put my magic wand down now and walk away.)

You read way to much into this game, while also missing much.

Like Bugs Bunny, rabbits can’t talk, but enjoy the cartoon anyway.

Here’s the point, “if you were King, and all the nations issues were as they are, and you could nake your word law, no need to take graft and make alliances, what three things would you change and why.

I see income/production as the life force of the producer, it should not be sucked without regard. I think all people should be treated equal.

I see without real change our contry will be overun with sneaky maids, gardners, computer techs, and terrorist. This needs to stop before we crash and burn. This requires national security on land and above (Iran may now have the ballistic technology to hit us stateside).

And I want the govenrment out of my life, except as constutionally required for keeping the peace and safety.

Thats my main three dictates, keeping in mind rabbits can’t talk, really.
My guards are looking for you. They have a pointy stick, and orders not to draw blood, just irritate. Good avoidance of them and the clear spirit of the article.

J:
If you were the king of the kingdom you described, I and 99% of the people would be in the hills in rebellion.

All kidding aside. Well some kidding aside, I have a few humble questions, your majesty?

So you would be a Libertarian king? King and Libertarian? Isn’t that a contradiction? Don’t Libertarians strive for liberty above all else? In your Utopia you would impose a monarchy upon the people? You would take your liberty to make yourself king? And lovers, like myself, of the republic would be exiled? Oh, you would be a Burger King Libertarian with your own Royal McDonalds? McDonalds for a Burger King king, isn’t there a conflict? And let me make the jump to what troubles me about your dream world — Governance and Libertarianism? Wouldn’t that pose a problem?

I know the Libertarian state is an ideal, that is very appealing on the surface, as a place where everybody is free to do his own thing, as long as he doesn’t interfere with anyone else; a state where we look after our borders and don’t go messing where we ought’n go messing; a peaceful state where liberty and tolerance is king. When I was young and green, didn’t know any better, I thought Libertarianism was a good idea, and I thought of myself as a Libertarian. Yes, I too once pined for a state where all the trees are forever green, and “live and let live,” is a natural law, a state where the community takes a back seat to the individual, where every one is on his own, he sinks or swims, he hunts, works or straves. But I grew up. I learned that such a state is a only a dream for the rugged individual, for the man who lives apart, in some wilderness, or for a young man, without family and community ties, and responsibilities to a community larger than himself and to his family. We may not be our brother’s keepers, but we should be our brother’s helpers.
