Do you pay your taxes, unlike Charles Rangle? You might be asking me; ‘Consti what does healthcare and the IRS have to do the price of rice?’ Well my friends let me fill you in on another little dirty secret of the proposed healthcare overhaul. But first let me ask you another question. When someone mentions the IRS what is the first thing that comes to mind? For me it s a faceless juggernaut with the power to put a lean on your home, garnish your wages, and even withdraw money from your account without hesitation. If you owe taxes these are all powers the IRS has to go after you. If you are really in their cross hairs they can have you jailed for tax evasion. Just ask actor Wesley Snipes, he will tell you.
But I digress, back to the topic at hand. What does the IRS and healthcare have in common? Well if the proposed legislation for healthcare is approved it will expand the power of the IRS even more than it currently has. It will put the IRS in the position of verifying your healthcare plan, and providing sensitive tax information to a host of government agencies that currently do not have access to such data. Don t believe me? Try this article in the Washington Examiner. Now I knew that the IRS would be involved in some way, but as I read more details, and correlated them to the proposed legislation I began to realize something. THIS IS NUTS!! From the article;
A substantial portion of proposed healthcare involves the rewriting of tax codes from 1986. Now pardon me for pointing out the truth, but good ol Charlie Rangle and several on his staff didn t file their taxes properly. And the IRS never found out until years later. For those of you who don t know, I will repeat myself. Charlie Rangle is the head of the Ways and Means committee. Who is that you say? They write the tax code for this country and hold the purse strings. Here s more from the article:
‘The Democrats’ plan would require all Americans to have “acceptable” insurance coverage (the legislation includes long and complex definitions of “acceptable”) and would designate the IRS as the agency charged with enforcing that requirement. On your yearly 1040 tax return, you would be required to attest that you have “acceptable” coverage. Of course, you might be lying, or simply confused about whether or not you are covered, so the IRS would need a way to check your claim for accuracy. Under current plans, insurers would be required to submit to the IRS something like the 1099 form in which taxpayers report outside income. The IRS would then check the information it receives from the insurers against what you have submitted on your tax form.’
Now I don t know about you, but I personally don t trust the IRS to balance a beam let alone the check book of the country. But now, one of the most powerful bureaucracies in our government is going to be responsible for policing healthcare. Not to mention the behemoth that is the current tax code. So will there be a 1040EZ for healthcare? Or will I have to itemize my healthcare in April to know I am getting my fair return?
I feel sick already.
Consti.
