I have been hesitant to cover healthcare reform beyond the town hall fiasco. In the interest of full disclosure I am a childhood cancer survivor. The first doctor my parents took me to told them it was a phase I would grow out of. A biopsy later and I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin s lymphoma. I went through chemo in the 70 s when it was still in its infancy. I ve known pain as a child that I wouldn t wish on ANYONE. So needless to say I don t hold the profession in high regard to begin with.
However, the current debate about reform has me nervous. One thing being illegal immigrants and the entitlements this will provide. I spent 20 years living in Arizona and I have seen the result of overcrowded ER s due to this. Now I wouldn t begrudge anyone medical care, I m just a decent human that way. However, hospitals RARELY see payment for services rendered, and are prevented from turning anyone away for treatment in an ER. Illegals know this, which is why they flock to the ER for treatment of common colds. Now there has been a lot of noise about Illegal s NOT being allowed into government health care, but I ask you to hear this from our own President. How about the fact that the current bill has NO language preventing Illegal s from receiving care under the plan?
Ask yourself why a government that can t manage Medicare or Medicaid, which is talking about cut backs, would want to force Government health care on the population? Could it be because it s a HUGH source of income if they did? How about the fact that ABC spent almost a whole day promoting the president s plan but won t air a commercial opposed to it? Or what about the representative that asked a town hall questioner for ID before he asked his question? The rep thought that the guy was a plant instead of a constituent. Regardless of the fact that the SEIU and ACORN has bussed people into tall halls from out of the jurisdiction to out shout people who deserve to have their reps answer their questions. I m at 384 words and I have barely scratched the surface of what I have read over the past week alone.
How about the fact that the health care bill will divulge your private IRS data to people who don t currently have or need access to it? They want to model health care after Europe, despite the fact that babies are born in hall ways and on toilets there due to rationing. Don t believe me? Read it here. How about the guy who collapsed from a ruptured appendix 3 weeks after they took it out.
478 words and I AM NO WHERE CLOSE TO DONE!! This is why I have been hesitant to cover health care reform because I can do another 3 blogs on the topic and still be only halfway done with it. How about the fact that the people who wrote the bill are Obama cronies and are profiting from it already?
Hoping none of you get sick under Obama-care.
Consti.

Since they want to use this a a model shouldn’t we make sure that it works first? They spend in some cases LESS THAN A $1 on meals!!
The Health care system needs reform not an overhaul. While we are at it what really needs reform is our federal government. There are some good ideas out there like this recent article. It brings up several good points including some addressed in the article. We really need government to focus on ways to cut cost through infrastructure and healthcare technology. Ideas like computer based records, online infrastructure etc. are what need development and an area where real savings can be realized fairly quickly.
One example Aetna Individual Health Plans recently improved a system for everyone to check rates and apply for coverage online. This is a good start but government needs to provide the infrastructure for healthcare management technology i.e. documents, test results, records, and personal history available online and by anyone authorized. This is where we should start.
These are all the same words, same speeches given back when the government invented HMOs to give competition and reduce insurance rates. All that the HMOs did was drive other insurance options out and force people in those areas into HMOs. HMOs rewarded doctors for withholding care and the president mentioned withholding care in his speech. Same reasoning, same bad plan. It ended with people dying from long waits and from care being withheld.
The fact that even if a public option is passed it will not go into effect until 2013, safely past the next election, tells the truth about everyone in D.C. knowing that the people will hate it and be furious as soon as they see it is the bad old HMO scheme but even worse.
There is a lot through passing laws the government can do to help, but they need to stay out of running health insurance or health care. A few more years won’t bring a revelation on how to revive a dead horse back to life and it won’t bring one for how to make a national HMO work that angry and unhappy people are forced into.
