Last year a grassroots movement swept our country, named after the famous tea party of our own revolutionary war, it’s goal was to bring attention, not to itself, like most political movements, but to bring attention to a bloated, unresponsive government, walking over the mountains of American bodies to plant it’s victory flag at the top of the heap.
It grew entirely at first by word of mouth while the mainstream media buried any story that may have stoked a fire of interest. All but a few like FOX almost completely ignored the hundreds of thousands who showed up in Washington DC last year.
After some high profile recognition from Beck and FOX types, the rest of the media tried to reduce it’s numbers and marginalize it dubbing them “TEA BAGGERS”, a pornographic elusion and justified it because it also refers to someone who holds a job of low social status.
The movement seemed to take fire from the fodder thrown at it from the mainstream media. Unable to ignore or marginalize, a common cry of “Demonize” rose from the media ranks. It was a ineffective effort though as it is always hard to make peaceful families and grandmothers look real intimidating. They were there with cam in hand at every opportunity to find one or two who were angry at being talked down to or insinuated that maybe the short bus was leaving and they should be on it.
Passion and just anger was turned into a dangerous homeland terrorist threat and indie loony’s who had found a home.
In the single year since this little grassroots thought materialized thousands of meetings and Millions of people have joined the righteous chorus.
To date with MILLIONS attending, I am not aware of a single arrest for disorderly or dangerous conduct!
NO LIBERAL movement with a fraction of their numbers can boast such a refined place in political discourse.
The main stream media stopped laughing when Scott Brown credited the Tea Party for his win of “The Kennedy Seat” of Massachusetts!
An Obama supporter this year decided to rally the troops and create a “Coffee Party” to rival the now famous Tea Party. The mainstream was on board.
Very unlike the Tea Party, who was at first ignored, the Coffee Party idea was mentioned at length on all liberal news outlets (CNN, CNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS and the New York Times just to name a few biggies), they all predicted “The Coffee Party” would be huge, being a CIVIL ALTERNATIVE to the Tea Party.
It’s founder Annabelle Park said “We are an alternative to the obstructionism and extreme political tactics, that I think are fear based, not reality based, and in many ways just deliberate misinformation”.
While given multiple platforms at CNN, anchor Lisa Sylvester, allowed Coffee Party reps to speak at length, about how the are more reasonable and a genuine alternative to shouting in order to get things done. Without “spewing” hateful rhetoric.
Just a note, before Scott Brown, there was nobody to obstruct the Dems, they held a filibuster proof majority! In fact the GOP was barred from attending most important meetings regarding policy and law before the public turned on them. It’s called a “Super Majority”.
Well the Coffee Party kicked off their opposition this March 13th, with a ton of vast media infomercials and hundreds of thousands worth of free advertising directly to their perceived audience.
The Main Stream media has quickly gone silent. In headquarters at St. Louis 30 people showed up. In Seattle where a huge support base was expected, 15 showed. In Minnesota where the Tea Party had a “Kill the Bill Rally”, thousands showed, the Coffee Party opposition located across the street had it’s largest turnout to date, 40 people showed up.
Guess which gathering CNN gave primary coverage too. If you said Coffee Party, you know our mainstream media.
This morning I’ll be having coffee for breakfast, just like the Tea Party Did.

We have to sometimes recognize that however well we might take on a topic, the topic itself plays a major role in the amount of attention.
I wonder sometimes why some articles get little reaction and others become a major battleground. It is fun, for me at least, to fancy that when little reaction comes in, it’s because my treatment left nothing further to say. Now how’s THAT for an ego?
Sometimes a battlefield in the wake of an article that has struck nerves is so busy with sniping over superfluous related topics, a comment on the content would be lost in the chaos.
It feels better to be a big fish under the quiet water of a small but deep pond but it sure does get tempting sometimes to take to the open sea on ‘abortion.’
Silverwun,
I sometimes get discouraged. My articles are important to me and many times it seems my lure is a dead lead weight, without any sparkle or whirling, dropping to the bottom of a mud water lake.
It’s nice to look up and see Eriks lure has attracted so many, he mise well just throw a net on the left side of the boat.
But I like fishing, even if I do more beer drinkin than catching. I’ll keep polishing my lure and stay satisfied, especially when the largest fish in the lake comes by to nibble at the bait, as unworthy as it may be.
Thanx
Swain, it reads better now than it did with the coffee. Of course it is late now and the brandy has softened my vision. Erik has posted a very provocative article as well that seems to have gotten a lot of attention. I like to be a big fish and Erik’s pond is crowded, giving the impression that navigation might be a little confining.
Now in your case, it seems that coffee parties were stillborn and nobody, exept apparently me, seems to care.
I think the Democrats got themselves knocked up with the notion that a ‘coffee party’ might sway some influence among the unwashed and when it proved to have no attraction and died a natural death, the ignominy of it all was lost on the general public.
They missed a chance to become the infusion party. The differnce between infusion and tea is about two bucks and the difference between infusion and coffee grounds is astronomical.
Just now pulled up to the keyboard with coffee in hand and was greeted by this article.
Maybe the Coffee Party needs an all too typical government redistribution of tea taxes in their direction to motivate them.
It doesn’t take a fortune teller to read what is in the tea leaves nor to guess what will happen with the coffee grounds.
