Today we find ourselves as political thinkers looking towards 2012 on one of two sides. Like our two party system implies, there may be hundreds of societal structure theories, but only two cam be predominate. Republican “Big Government” or Democrat “Bigger Government”. Or as I call it lesser and greater evil.
“Let him would lead you be your humblest servant”
Somewhere between Washington and Obama we have lost our way. In the beginning our Bill of rights was set up not to say, “Hey citizen you have freedom of speech”, that is a warped view that has led us to where we are today. Please catch the difference, “Government shall make no law restricting Freedom of Speech”.
The difference may seem subtle, but it is critical. Our country was set up for anti-nanny state government.
All rights are actually government restrictions. The right to bear arms was not so that we could shoot elk, rather keep the government from assuming more power than the people themselves. For instance “the right of privacy cannot exist, if it be a right granted by government, rather than a restriction upon government.
More important than the checks and balances of the central government is the rights of states to regulate and govern from a local level. Prior to the interstate commerce act, intended originally on to guarantee unhindered business activity between states has been turned into a means where the central government can regulate just about everything.
Today my progressive friends and many in my own camp, feel a centralized government is essential for parity between business and citizenry. To be our advocate. This implies that business is an “adversary”.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Business is us. From mom and pop sewing machine repair shops to Proctor and Gamble. The real balance of power was to be state law, not nanny state control.
I am told, “I can vote for my legislator, not for board members”, and that is true if you have no stock within the business, but many citizens do. I say firmly, people are people, good and bad. I am told corporations just seek profit. I say they seek customers like you and I. Politicians seek power every bit as much as business seek profit. PLEASE remember, “Business and their customers employed and built this country.
Government produces “nothing”. Our “servants” merely take from business and customers to build itself.
From the Whitehouse carpet to the teleprompters all were created by business and paid for by business and their employees and customers. Government creates nothing except rules it then enforces ultimately at the end of a gun.
I am told that evil profit motivated business is the root of all evil. Hundreds, no thousands of lives have been lost due to their greed.
Let’s take a very quick inventory of actual history. Lead paint and cheap car brakes have accounted for much tragedy. Once it was realized, the public quit using those products, but admittedly only after every avenue was exhausted as to minimize profit loss. Not good.
Now let’s look at governments. Under Pol Pots of Cambodia, 20% of the population was slaughtered. Under Castro, all persons with a college degree were interned or killed, Hitlers Germany, over 12 million died at governments hands. Stalin, some say 40 million starved to death intentionally. He was quoted as saying, “one citizen dies, it’s a tragedy. Millions die, it’s a statistic. Moa, 80 million souls lost.
I say the Halls of the people are called “The Halls of Power”, for a reason.
Under the Patriot act, last year in New Jersey, a 78 year old librarian was handed a “Hand Written” search warrant, which she laughed at. She was restricted by law from divulging she got a search warrant. She immediately told her 86 year old room mate. They were both arrested and faced 5 years in prison for divulging a patriot act warrant. Any newspaper that reported the action could be fined and the reporter arrested. Luckily they saw a judge who blew the lid off, it could have went the other way.
Somewhere, somehow we lost our way, lost our State rights, and now bow to the true power, the government.
The Servant has become The Master.
