Born in the USA- Not a birther blog

Watching the Superbowl ads tell men to basically “get a set” or “nut-up” made me think of an idea I had in the mid 1980′s that America was in for a musical change…
For those too young to remember these two young women– Madonna and Cyndi Lauper– were ruling the pop charts along with Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and Prince. I knew a white male act was going to follow and be huge– not as a backlash, but rather as a “balance” to all the non-white male stuff going on in popular music. I didn’t know it would turn out to be Bruce Springsteen, but he fit the bill perfectly. He was the average Joe that middle-America identified with. Nothing about Bruce was metrosexual or less than manly. He was the guy you had a beer after work with.
Now fast forward a generation and America is ready for change again. Following a blue-blood in blue jeans and our current metrosexual President, America is ready for another Bruce Springsteen type. Those ads that joked about what men put up with for women are more telling than you may think. There is a lot of frustration among white men. We are tired of being depicted as the evil force in the world. We are tired of being held to a higher standard than women, blacks, latinos, gays, etc… I’m not saying we hate those groups as a norm, but we are frustrated that we have to be politically correct while we are insulted and belittled as a group endlessly. We are tired that fair means us losing- every time- so that another group can get “justice”. The world isn’t fair. I would like to have grown up on the beaches of Hawaii with our President, but I didn’t. I would like to be able to get a 50/50 chance of keeping my children in a custody suit, but I don’t. I would like to make every famous black man that ever called me cracker, honky, or any other racial slur, lose his job and demonize him publicly, but that only works in reverse.
Now those ads represent more than a quick joke. White men as a group feel more put upon than any other group. When the next Presidential election comes it will be the white guy you would have a beer with after work that will be elected. It won’t be a blue blood– be he black or white. It won’t be a woman- not yet. It will be an average Joe type personality, with a decent educational background and a compelling argument for his economic theory.
