A Light at the End of The Tunnel?

It’s a tragedy in this country when it’s citizens have to make the choice of whether to buy groceries or pay for prescriptions and medical care. And if you have a family, it’s an even tougher choice. Let’s see food or medication, do you flip a coin to decide. Food pantries are reporting a record number of people utilitizing their services and they aren’t on welfare or/and food stamps but they are the working class who are having a great amount of difficulty trying to feed their themselves and their families.
These people fall between the cracks, their incomes are too high to qualify for food stamps or other social programs so they resort to visiting these pantries to obtain food. The economy is the cause of this surge in need. People are getting laid off, the rising cost of food, rents and utilities factor in here. If you are working, your wages aren’t enough to keep up with the cost of living.

The 2012 Presidential Election is fast approaching

Whether you realize it or not, you’ve just made a great argument for government getting out of the welfare business. Private, charitable food pantries are providing for those in need. Donations are coming from private concerns that are in the communities where the need exists, and the government just can’t meet those needs. I would much rather have to rely on my neighbor who knows my need than a distant government that does not.

At 1st glance I was in agreement. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen the hard working poor penalized by the Gov for trying.
Sit on your butt, work the system, get full benefits.
Go to work, make 1/2 what you would from the state and they cut these people off from anything.
If you don’t even start to look to the machine as a source of help, your direction changes, and hopefully your circumstances.
I am of course not addressing those with real dire situations and nowhere else to turn.
